Episode # 46 // Living God’s Word in Everyday Life with Emily Assell
This week’s guest is Emily Assell. Sometimes you meet someone and you just sense the Spirit of God in them so fully and you are drawn to their joy and candor. Emily is one such person. I met her last year at a conference called Mom Comm and it was so evident to me that she loves Jesus with her whole heart. Emily shares her journey of understanding pain and suffering through a spiritual lens and experiencing the transformative power of God's word. Our conversation encouraged me for days and weeks afterward, and thinking about her wisdom still brings a smile to my face.
GUEST BIO
Emily Assell is a bestselling children’s book author, speaker, and homeschooling mom of three. She believes dry shampoo, snacks, and the Word of God can solve almost any parenting problem. She and her husband, Matt, started Generation Claimed to self-publish her first book before being picked up by Tyndale House Publishers. Emily has spoken at many parenting conferences, schools, mothers’ groups, and special events, and she has been a featured guest on multiple podcasts, teaching and encouraging all ages about the power of God’s Word. But don’t worry, her kids still have to explain all the latest slang and keep her pretty humble, despite her best efforts to be cool.
MEMORABLE QUOTES
What would you pay for one kid to end up in the kingdom of God?...So we took the down payment for our house and turned it into books.
God was so faithful to multiply it, to take our fish and loaves and use it to feed literally thousands of kids and people worldwide.
What am I actually living for in the day to day?
He is my great reward.
I walked through the desperation and you see that these truths were dug out of dark, deep, ugly places in my own life. They're here because I want to share with every mom what I learned, how I was transformed, the hope that I found, and hopefully a little easier than the way that I found it. But that's the word of God. That's the power of the Holy Spirit. That's His love and His faithfulness in us.
Just being in his presence is enough. There's joy there. There's peace there. It doesn't fix all of the problems. It doesn't take all the situation away, but he is more than enough.
If nothing else in your life, have I not taught you obedience?
The Lord has met us above and beyond anything we could have ever done on our own.
I know these verses not because I have a biblical theology brain, not because I'm so smart, because I was so desperate for God in my life.
God's Word is the only unshakeable rock that I can stand on.
