|With two of my very best friends in Seattle earlier this year.|
We've all heard it said that we were made for community, but do we live like we believe that? How many times have we heard the phrase, "No man is an island," but how often do we try to do everything on our own?
Friends, there is beauty in friendship and there is joy in finding community. "Community" is a buzz word that is thrown around a lot these days. The definition of community is "a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals." When we decide to quit looking at what we don't have through eyes of lack, we can allow ourselves the space to find friendship with those who share the same passions and interests. Community does not come out of thin air, though. It takes hard work!
When we compete, we miss out on community. When we allow thoughts of insecurity and comparison to consume us, we forfeit the joy found in living in vulnerability before our friends. There is so much power found when we lay down our insecurities, hangups, prejudices, biases, and desires to compete in order to find genuine friendships with others. Let's do this today so that we don't miss out on the riches of relationship.
